The core that makes FIRST great is its volunteers. Without their support providing the programming offered to
students would be difficult. As an organization dedicated to helping with the mission of FIRST, GOFIRST is proud to provide countless hours of volunteering at events and with teams. As such, we encourage others who may not have participated with FIRST in the past to look into volunteering at an event or with a local team. More on volunteering with FIRST (and in particular with FRC) at the image link to the left.
Probably the most rewarding feeling one can get is seeing the joy and elation of students as they learn and begin to understand new concepts. As such, mentoring a team can be a rewarding experience for yourself and the students you guide. During the build season, the excitement and anticipation builds as you help your students to design and build a robot utilizing some of the top parts industry has to offer.
We encourage anyone who has any interesting in mentoring a team to look into it. If you would like more information on how to mentor or finding a local team please feel free to contact us.
A great way to volunteer with FIRST is by attending and helping at a local regional. Minnesota currently is host to four regionals; the Lake Superior and Northern Lights Regionals held at DECC in Duluth and the 10,000 Lakes and North Star Regionals held at the U of M. There are many different positions available to work and no experience is required. A few positions do require some training, but all give front row seats to the all the action that these events bring. Click the image link to the left for Minnesota Regional Committee or visit the FIRST volunteer portal (VIMS) at my.usfirst.org/FIRSTPortal/Login/VIMS_Login.aspx to go straight to the volunteer sign-up.
If you are not in the Minnesota area and are interested in other regionals in your local area visit www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/regional-events for a listing of all the FRC events around the globe.
